In The Beginning |

In the beginning, Red Man was one of the most popular brands of leaf chewing tobacco in the U.S. In fact, it was the method of advertising that Pinkerton tobacco used back in the early 1900’s that made it so popular. What they did was offered farmers, often the same ones that grew the tobacco used in Red Man, a small yearly fee of around $10 if they could paint the Red Man logo on their barns. Since wooden barns required painting at least once a year, the farmers figured that it was worth it just for the fresh coat of paint! Today in rural parts of the Southern U.S. you can still find the faded remnants of this advertising idea but what is making Red Man so popular today, you ask? Well, it’s because Red Man doesn’t just come as a leaf chew anymore! |
